Because if you don’t understand lead acid battery maintenance then you will have half the life expectancy and less than a third of the power storage capacity.

Why is lead acid battery maintenance so important?

If you use lead acid batteries in any application, the likelihood is you aren’t getting what the lead acid battery is capable of. This is because without systematic lead acid battery maintenance, the chemical change inside the battery results in a build up of lead sulphate crystals. (In use the positive electrode plates change from lead oxide when charged to lead sulphate when discharged). This coating of the electrode means part of the plate does not return to lead oxide when the battery is recharged.

The parts of the plates that become "sulphated" no longer store energy.

Which means the normal charge and discharge cycle eventually suffocates the electrode plate. Batteries that are deeply discharged, and then charged partially on a regular basis can fail in less than one year. In other words, without lead acid battery maintenance, normal use of a lead acid battery will eventually cause the plates to become coated in lead sulphate and the battery will fail.

The result is the batteries may appear fully charged but in reality are operating at a third of their energy storage capacity.

This results in more and more frequent recharging cycles and eventually, premature battery failure. Poor battery reconditioning and maintenance will significantly reduce a batteries ability to hold a full charge. This means reduced capacity to store electricity and therefore it reduces the discharge period.

How can you ensure effective lead acid battery maintenance?

Until recently, the only proven ways to ensure your lead acid battery maintenance involved a lot of manual effort and potentially dangerous procedures being carried out up to four times a year. You can download the ‘FREE 12v Lead Acid Battery Reconditioning and Maintenance Step-by-Step Guide’ from the top right of this page. This will explain in detail, step-by-step, what you need to do, to ensure your lead acid battery is being maintained effectively. Alternatively you can fit and forget a PULS-R unit.

PULS-R lead acid battery maintenance using Crystal Control Technology®

The PULS-R lead acid battery maintenance unit uses the unique and patented Crystal Control Technology® (CCT and its intellectual property of WaveTech) to destroy the large lead sulphate crystals from the surface of the electrode plates. The resulting Hydrogen and Sulphur get re-absorbed into the sulphuric acid (electrolite).Prolonging the battery life and maintaining a higher capacity level in addition to conditioning the physical electrode plates.

Batteries need to be exercised to keep them fit for purpose and PULS-R gives them the equivalent of a cardio vascular workout.

There is no other product available which has been independently tested by an accredited Research Agency and proven to work this effectively. PULS-R enables your lead acid battery to hold more power, have a longer discharge period and up to double the service life.

PULS-R is a unique microcontrolled dynamic electronic device which uses the breakthrough patented Crystal Control Technology®.

It is proven to dramatically increase battery performance by up to 340%

It at least doubles the expected service life of a lead acid battery

It will reduce the recharge time by up to 45%

It will make your batteries more durable when operating in harsh environments

It emits a powerful dynamic electronic pulse when it detects a charge

PULS-R has five unique benefits which combine to provide you with at least double battery life and a measureable increase in performance:

1) PULS-R only actively works when it receives 13.7v and 0.5amp from any source
Whether the input is from an alternator, a solar panel, wind generator, a standalone battery charger or any other charge source - the PULS-R unit will automatically start as it detects it is receiving 13.7v and 0.5amp. This will only occur when your battery is actively receiving a charge .Therefore preventing the PULS-R unit from ever drawing more than it’s very low ‘standby’ current of 3mA.  Avoiding inadvertently draining the battery the unit is installed to protect.

2) It destroys the harmful larger lead sulphate crystals that form on the electrode plates
Lead sulphate crystals are formed as a result of the chemical changes which naturally occur inside the battery during the routine discharge and recharging cycle. These crystals build up on the electrode plates inside the battery. Eventually, as a result of the standard usage cycle, these large lead sulphate crystals form an impenetrable coating which suffocates the electrode plates. This renders the battery incapable of receiving or holding a meaningful charge.

This means that even regularly used lead acid batteries are slowly suffocating from a build-up of lead sulphate crystals. This process begins the second the battery is put into action and unless a PULS-R is fitted, a toxic blanket of lead sulphate crystals prematurely ends the service life of your battery.

PULS-R's unique Crystal Control Technology® (CCT and its intellectual property of WaveTech) sends a dynamic electronic pulse when the battery is being charged. This pulse produces rapid changes in the field strength causing existing lead sulphate crystals to be separated from the lead electrode by the higher energy positive hydrogen ion.

This effectively destroys the large lead sulphate crystals from the surface of the electrode. The resulting Hydrogen and Sulphur get re-absorbed into the sulphuric acid (electrolite).

This process is so effective it can be used on old batteries, which have not been fitted with a PULS-R device from new. It will rejuvenate the electrode plates by destroying the lead sulphate crystal build up.

3) It supports the even formation of lead dioxide crystals so it can hold more energy
In preventing the undesirable formation of lead sulphate crystals, the PULS-R's Crystal Control Technology® (CCT and its intellectual property of WaveTech) also actively supports the even formation of lead dioxide crystals. This strengthens the electrode plates and ensures your battery has a longer, more effective service life. It also enables it to hold a greater volume of energy during the recharge cycle .

4) The electrodes within the battery are mechanically more stable
As a result of the formation of a more uniform layer of lead dioxide on the electrode plates within the battery, the electrode plates are maintained in a better condition. This means that batteries used in demanding applications, which are likely to be subjected to violent movement, remain physically stronger inside. Therefore are less likely to suffer terminal mechanical failure as the battery ages.

5) The electrodes are in better condition which means they recharge faster (upto 45%)
The formation of a more uniform layer of lead dioxide on the electrode plates within the battery makes it more receptive to charge. This means, when compared to a non PULS-R reconditioned and maintenance battery, your recharge time is significantly reduced. PLUS the energy storage capacity is significantly higher - up to 340%..

In concrete terms this means PULS-R lead acid battery reconditioning and maintenance gives you a longer service life, increased performance and fewer charging cycles. Which means reduced maintenance costs, reduced replacement costs and confidence in your batteries.

The PULS-R lead acid battery reconditioning and maintenance is so effective it can even rejuvenate older batteries. Extending their service life and increasing their capacity for charge.

However, to get the best performance, full potential and maximum return on your investment from your lead acid battery - you must fit a PULS-R lead acid battery reconditioning and maintenance system to it from day one.

Don't just take our word for it...

Independent verification test results of a PULS-R 12v lead acid battery reconditioning and maintenance unit by MIRA (Motor Industry Research Association)

The object of the test programme on a Puls-R 12V was to review the performance of the device. In order to do this, ten lead acid batteries were subjected to a controlled rapid discharge, recharged, then again subjected to a rapid discharge. This exercise was repeated 100 times to benchmark the performance of the 12v lead acid batteries.

• 5 batteries were fitted with the PULS-R 12v unit (the blue line)

• 5 batteries were not (the red line)

At the 1st cycle the untreated battery took approximately 2794 seconds (46 minutes) to discharge where the treated battery took approximately 2637 seconds (43 minutes).

No two lead acid batteries are exactly the same. This first test records that the averages of each two groups of batteries tested, the non treated battery group (the red line) actually had a longer discharge duration. Which means they were initially the better performing group, before the PULS-R had been activated. The PULS-R units only become active during the recharge cycle.

With the batteries recharged, then discharged 100 times -The effect of the PULS-R 12v was conclusive. The MIRA graph below illustrates their test results. The battery with the PULS-R (the blue line), significantly out performed the battery without the PULS-R 12v (the red line).

At the 100th cycle the untreated battery took approximately 966 seconds (16 minutes) to discharge where the treated battery took approximately 1742 seconds (29 minutes).

The final discharge duration of the treated battery is equal to 66% of the initial capacity and the duration of the untreated battery is equal to 34% of the initial capacity.

The other aspect of the test was to measure the capacity of both batteries over the 100 cycles. As you would expect the battery group which discharged for the longest duration initially also had the greater capacity.

Below you can see at a glance, that the battery group without the PULS-R 12v units (the red line), loses capacity rapidly and the decline is sustained throughout the 100 cycles. However the battery group with the PULS-R 12v fitted (the blue line) actually increases in capacity after approximately five recharge cycles and the decline is stabilised at 66%.

This is an example of the data used to calculate the change in capacity over 100 cycles. Data collected from battery 1 (treated) and battery 2 (untreated) was used to profile a graph of capacity against cycles. Samples were taken at 5 cycle intervals.

The capacity was calculated at each of these points and plotted on the graph.

After the 100 cycles the untreated battery had dropped in capacity by approximately 66% to a final capacity of 34% where as the treated battery had only dropped by approximately 34% to a final capacity of 66%.
